The Friends of the Lakewood Libraries, (FoLL), is accepting applications for educational scholarships in various amounts between $500.00 and $1,000.00 to students of high caliber, both in character and academics, and who have a strong desire to further their education. All applicants and/or immediate family members must have volunteered for FoLL and/or directly to Angelo Iacoboni and/or George M. Nye Jr. Libraries.
These educational scholarships are offered not only to students who are seniors in high school, but also to those already enrolled in post high school education. Awards will not be based solely on the highest GPA, but also require active citizenship in the community and at school. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate their desire to continue their education beyond high school. The student’s enrollment at any accredited college, university or trade school will be acceptable to meet this qualification. Lastly, letters of recommendation are required to corroborate character and academics.
Applications are available at both Angelo Iacoboni and George Nye Libraries and on line at www.LakewoodLibraryFriends.org.
Completed applications must be postmarked by April 7, 2017, and mailed to the Friends of the Lakewood Libraries Scholarship Committee, 4990 Clark Ave, Lakewood, CA 90712, or delivered to Iacoboni Library, (same address) by 5 p.m. on April 9, 2017.
In addition to the application requirements noted above, applicants are required to provide a 5” x 7” head shot photo to be used for publication purposes. Photos will be returned to each applicant.
Donations to the Friends of the Lakewood Libraries Scholarship Trust are also being accepted. They are fully tax deductable and can be mailed or brought to Angelo Iacoboni Library, 4990 Clark Ave., Lakewood, CA 90712. The number and amounts of scholarships awarded each year will depend on the amount available.
