Looking forward to 2020 for the Fifteenth annual Family Reading Festival

Many thanks to the organizers and volunteers who made the fourteenth annual Lakewood Family Reading Festival at Nye library a success.
The touch tanks from the Aquarium of the Pacific were great!

On February 22, 1973, the City of Lakewood, in cooperation with the County of Los Angeles Public Library, opened the George Nye, Jr. Library. The library is named for Lakewood Mayor George H. Nye, Jr. who died while serving in office in May 1971. The library is the second in the city and serves the population of the eastern area of the city which includes eight elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school..

The mission of Friends of the Lakewood Libraries is to enhance the programs, services and materials of the Lakewood libraries.
Nye is thankful to FoLL for funds to support purchases of:

  • Books, books on CD's as well as DVD's to enhance our collection.
  • Scholastic books for giveaways
  • Magazines and Newspapers
  • Incentives to motivate the children to read during the Summer Discovery Program
  • Furniture to improve our library spaces
  • Funds for art activities for all ages
  • Funding our beautiful salt water aquarium at George Nye

Programming funds will bring live theater, music, dance, educational, cultural and entertainment events to our community.  There will also be an emphasis on programming with more teen and adult programs for the disabled such as crochet and adult coloring.
